There are many types of air compressors, which can be divided into capacity refrigeration compressors, reciprocating refrigeration compressors, and centrifugal compressors based on their principles. Common air compressors include rotary screw air compressors, air-cooled air compressors, centrifugal compressors, scroll air compressors, and vortex air compressors.

The most common types we see in the market are rotary screw air compressors and air-cooled air compressors. Their basic principle consists of a crankshaft, piston rod, cylinder, and other components. When the engine crankshaft rotates, the piston rod moves back and forth through the crankshaft drive system, causing the working volume formed by the cylinder cavity, cylinder head, and the top surface of the piston rod to undergo periodic changes. When the piston rod moves from the cylinder head, the working volume in the cylinder gradually increases. At this time, the gas enters the cylinder through the intake port and opens the bypass valve until the working volume reaches its maximum, at which point the bypass valve closes; when the piston rod moves in the opposite direction, the working volume in the cylinder decreases, and the air pressure increases. When the pressure in the cylinder reaches and slightly exceeds the exhaust pressure, the automatic exhaust valve opens, allowing the cylinder to discharge until the piston rod moves to the upper limit position, at which point the automatic exhaust valve closes. When the piston rod moves in the opposite direction again, the above process repeats. In simpler terms, when the engine crankshaft rotates once, the piston rod reciprocates once, completing the compression and exhaust process in the cylinder, thus completing the working cycle. However, due to the high noise of piston air compressors, rotary screw compressors are gradually replacing many components.
